4 Best Places to Search for a Semi for Sale

Making it through the trucking industry can be quite challenging because of the various difficulties that you need to overcome. Perhaps the hardest one is choosing the right big rig that you can invest in to start your fleet or business. While there are various brands coming from different truck manufacturers, you can greatly consider getting a big rig from International.

If you are looking for a new semi to acquire, perhaps to add to your fleet or to begin your business, then you need to go for one that is manufactured by one of the top brands in the US. Fortunately, there are already several options for you to choose from but, when you have clothing, furniture, or appliances that you no longer need but are still useful, you can just hold a garage sale or list the items online to sell them. Something as big as a used semi-truck, however, isn’t something you can sell as easily. It can’t be transported quickly from one place to another, nor is it a small expense that someone can buy on a whim.

That said, where should you look if you’re looking specifically for a used semi-truck? You could ask people in your neighborhood, perhaps, but there’s no guarantee that they’ll know of a truck being sold. Fortunately, there are places where chances are high that you’ll find just the big rig you need. Nevertheless, choosing to buy a used semi truck or a brand new rig is often the first issue that most truckers face in the whole ordeal. Although buying a new truck is definitely the better choice in general, most truckers would rather purchase used trucks for a variety of reasons–one being used semi trucks tend to be cheaper. And if you just know what to check before buying a used one, it’s easy to get a good deal. There is a wide selection of second-hand semis, including big brands like Peterbilt, Freightliner, and used Kenworth semi trucks for sale.

Newspaper Listings

If you’re not looking forward to a long drive to check out a semi-truck in person, you can limit your search to trucks being sold close by. Newspaper listings are a great place to start since those who place ads are more likely to live in your city.

Wherever you find the semi for sale, it’s imperative that you see the vehicle for yourself. Newspaper ads will have limited space, so the one who placed the ad may have been unable to include a photograph.

Truck Auctions

Auctions aren’t just for art or jewelry, whether it’s one you attend in person or one that’s held online. Many truck owners have turned to selling their used vehicles at auctions because the process has since become more streamlined, making it easier even for a newcomer to jump in and place a bid. On top of that, auctions are a good place to quickly get an idea of how much you can expect to spend to acquire that used semi.

Dealerships

Dealers are great at appraising and then selling vehicles, no matter the make and model, and age. Even if you don’t know who may be selling a used truck, there’s bound to be at least one dealer who does. It’s just a matter of going to the dealerships in your area or your state, depending on how far you want to go to find a big rig, and then asking.

Just be careful when buying a truck at a dealership, though; since you’re negotiating with a dealer, there’s bound to be an increase in the price for a truck. After all, the dealer has to make money, too, somehow.

Dedicated Online Selling Platforms

There are a few websites that focus on selling used trucks, so that will save you time sifting through the listings compared to platforms where anyone can sell anything and everything. With such dedicated platforms, you’re more likely to be dealing directly with the seller, so you don’t have to worry about potential scams involving non-existent trucks or price increases directly tied to a dealer’s commission.

The downside is that the seller could be all the way across the country, so there may be a bit of a wait between purchasing and actually getting the truck.

Wherever you decide to search for a semi for sale, remember to take the same precautions you would when buying any other used vehicle, like asking for maintenance records and asking about the history of the truck.
