Finding treasure with a metal detector is not just a fantasy or a fantasy of prospecting. Many people have already found treasure with a metal detector! You must understand that today’s detectors are equipped with a real concentrate of modern technology.
Since this kind of adventure doesn’t just happen to other people, I’m going to explain a few tricks to make the most of your investment. You are not safe from a good surprise!
Prospectors’ experiences and conditions
Some people decide to make treasure hunting a real profession! This is the case of a former journalist who was investigating pirate fortunes hidden in remote places.
Families then solicited this passionate person to help them find possible ancestral treasures within their property. Today, for each search, a contract between him and his client guarantees him 30% of the value of the goods found on the ground.
Various organizations specialized in the search for gold can be contacted if you suspect the existence of a treasure under your feet or in a building. Indeed, it is good to know that gold is a delicate metal to detect and the help of a specialist is often welcome!
Having the right equipment to detect gold
Can a metal detector really find treasure ?
With conventional devices, the detection depth of a gold nugget is about one meter. To optimize your chances of finding a treasure, the discrimination capacity of your detector is an important element.
In the case of highly mineralized ground, it is advisable to use a pulsed induction detector. Very rapid pulses are sent through the coil of the device’s disk:
the current that flows produces a brief and repeated magnetic field, but more powerful than that of conventional devices, and discrimination is better. These few pulsed exchanges make it possible to specify the metallic composition of the detected object.
However, the majority of detectors available on the market are VLF: “very low frequency”. On these devices, the magnetic field is produced continuously. It is an electronic circuit and not a magnetic exchange as in the case of pulsed induction detectors. VLFs are less powerful than pulsed induction, but also less expensive and less complex to use.
If they are the most sold and the most requested, it is because their performances are largely sufficient for leisure detection as well as for the search for some treasures.
It is also possible to rent quality equipment from professionals for one or more days. A detector rental is often accompanied by a prospecting training course, so you can optimize your time!
What brand and range of detectors should I choose ?
Our product tests and reviews will certainly help you choose the detector that best suits your needs.
Here I select two interesting devices for their gold performances.
- The Equinox 600 and 800 from Minelab : Here is a powerful and efficient detector to find any type of metal! This model has an interface where you can choose the type of metal and select the intensity of your choice. It also has a plug to connect the headset that is offered. In addition, it provides a superb autonomy of up to 40 hours of use!
- The DEUS FULL 6: The XP Metal Detectors has a rich palette of options and very personal manual settings that allow for fine and complex field investigation. I believe it is difficult to find a detector that can adapt so well to so many users and so many terrains.
Practical guide: how to find your treasure ?
In order not to be overwhelmed by the tons of information and advice available, I propose a simple method to intelligently start your first treasure hunt and adopt the right reflexes.
Find out about the treasure you are looking for
For your hunt to be effective, know exactly what type of treasure you are looking for. Coins? Objects? Gold, silver? Specialized gold detectors are sometimes less versatile when it comes to searching for other types of ferrous objects.
On the other hand, the diameter of the target depends on the size of the disc and the sensitivity of the device: a large disc will distinguish less easily small objects (coins), but a too small disc, although sensitive, may miss larger objects. You can find all the tips you need to choose your metal detector here.
Get the right maps
Get some old maps ! Don’t expect to find a legendary pirate’s treasure map, but these documents can be useful in understanding the topography and history of the sites you visit, and in pinpointing where some valuable items might be found. Be careful, however, not to go to any prohibited places.
Get permission from the landowner
Whatever the site, it is always better to take the necessary precautions with the town hall or the private owner. Your treasure is at stake, because if no agreement has been signed, any discovery made on private land belongs only to the owner.
