PAN Card Linking With Aadhaar Card

In order to be able to file your income tax returns, you need to link your Aadhaar card to your PAN card. Also, if you want to carry out a financial transaction of more than INR 50,000 then also you would be required to link your Aadhaar card to your PAN card. The process is very simple and the government provides various ways of doing so. The last date to get your both cards linked to each other has been extended to 31st March, 2023. Also you have to pay some fee to link your PAN to your Aadhaar card. INR 500 if you link your card before 30th June, 2022 and INR 1000 if you link after this date. The two ways to link PAN with Aadhaar card are as follows:

Link PAN Card to Aadhaar Card Online through E-filing Website

The method to link your Aadhaar card to your PAN card via the e-filing website is as follows:

  • Visit the Tax E-filing website
  • Click “Link Aadhaar” option
  • Provide details such as your Aadhaar card and PAN card number
  • Enter your name as on Aadhaar card
  • Check the box if your date of birth is mentioned on the Aadhaar card
  • Check the box 
  • Head over to the that says “I agree to validate my Aadhaar details with UIDAI”
  • Click the “Link Aadhaar” button 
  • Submit the OTP received on your mobile number 
  • Click “Validate”
  • You will see a message on the next screen that states the successful linking of your Aadhaar card to your PAN card

Link PAN Card to Aadhaar Card Through SMS

You can even link your Aadhaar card to a PAN card by simply sending an SMS. The process for the same is as follows:

  • Type a message to link your PAN card to your Aadhaar card
  • The format of that message should be UIDPAN<12 Digit Aadhaar<10 digit PAN number)
  • Send the message on 567678 from your registered mobile number

What if you Fail to Link PAN with Aadhaar Online?

Before 31st March, 2023 it has now been made compulsory for all the PAN holders to link their card with their Aadhaar cards. The Income Tax Department can further deactivate your PAN card if you fail to link it with your Aadhaar card. Also, it is important to check whether your name on the PAN card matches with your name on the Aadhaar card. However, if there is any difference in the spelling of your name or any other information on any of the cards, then you would not be able to link your Aadhaar card to a PAN card. It is advisable to get the spelling corrected first and try to link your Aadhaar card to your PAN card.

In case of spelling mistake on your PAN card

In case there is a spelling mistake on your PAN card then you can get it rectified. Below are the steps to rectify spelling mistakes on your PAN card:

  • Visit the official NSDL e-filing website
  • Click on “Changes or Correction in existing PAN data”
  • Under the categories option select “Individual”
  • Enter your details
  • Complete your Aadhaar e-KYC
  • Submit your form and make required payment
  • The updated PAN card will be sent at your address
  • You can further link your updated PAN card with your Aadhaar card.

In case of spelling mistake on your Aadhaar card

If you have a spelling mistake on your Aadhaar card then there are some steps that you can follow to correct them. The steps to rectify a spelling mistake on your Aadhaar card are as follows:

  • Head over to the Aadhaar card enrolment centre
  • Fill the Aadhaar card correction form
  • Along with your ID proof submit the correction form
  • You will receive the Update Request Number, that can be used to track the correction status
  • Once the correction has been completed you can link your Aadhaar card to your PAN card.

How to check the Linking Status Between your Aadhaar Card and PAN Card

There are certain steps that you need to follow to check your eAadhar PAN link status. The steps for the same are as follows:

  • Head over to the official Income Tax Department website
  • Open the “Quick Links” option
  • Select “Link Aadhar Status”
  • Provide your Aadhaar and PAN number
  • Click  “View Link Aadhaar Status”
  • Your Aadhaar card and PAN card link status will be displayed on the next screen.
